Hazardous Materials Training Program
The Hazardous Materials Training Program is one of the areas of focus for the Labor Extension Program at the School of Labor & Employment Relations at the University of Illinois . The Hazardous Materials Training Program provides some of the most comprehensive hazardous materials training in the Midwest . With eighteen years of experience, the program has trained thousands of individuals. Its expert instructors and comprehensive curriculum have earned a reputation for high-quality training.
As a member of the NIEHS Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training, The program provides extensive hands-on training, including the use of respiratory protection, equipment practice and work task performance. Several of these courses are offered in cooperation and partnership with the National School for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Department of Health and Human Services.
The program is one of sixteen organizations in the United States funded by NIEHS to develop and host training programs for workers covered by OSHA'S Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard-29CFR 1910, 120 and DOT's Shipper/Transporter Standards-49CFR 172.700 &177.800.
General Course Information
The classes provide training for government agency health and safety professionals who have hazardous materials management responsibilities. Participants from the private sector and non-management personnel are also encouraged to attend.
All courses meet the training requirements of OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard-29CFR 1910.120 and DOT's Shipper/Transporter Standards-49CFR 172.700 & 177.800 and are available as open enrollment sessions and as customized on-site training to fit your needs.
Upon successful completion of courses, Certificates of Participation and Continuing Education Units are awarded by the University of Illinois .
Program fees for each participant includes a course manual and some instructional reference materials. (Open enrollment classes include a continental breakfast with coffee and tea.) Payments can be made by check or credit card (American Express, Visa, or MasterCard).
A 10% discount is available for groups of 10 or more participants from the same company.
A 15% discount can be applied to all public sector employees.
A limited number of scholarships are available to public sector employees. Some scholarships can be applied towards on-site/customized training. Contact our office for more details.
NOTE : Medical clearance is required to attend the 40HR Hazwoper, 40HR Technician, 8HR Emergency Response Refresher, and Confined Space awareness.
The Labor Education Program administers hazardous materials training through a grant from The Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training. The Consortium combines the technical resources of universities and health and safety organizations throughout the Midwest. It is one of sixteen organizations in the United States funded by the National School of Environmental Health Sciences to develop and host training programs for workers covered by the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (29 CFR 1910. 120).
